Australian airports continue to operate despite the substantial impacts of COVID on the aviation industry. Hundreds of aircraft of all sizes continue to operate throughout the entire Australian domestic and International network, all be it at a temporarily reduced capacity.

But surprisingly, this reduction in aircraft movement does not neutralise the risk or consequences of an aircraft incident at our airports.

Hundreds of parked planes and much higher than normal fuel reserves at airports mean a greater risk of catastrophic fire than ever. Only highly trained Aviation Firefighters are equipped to handle an explosive situation like this.

But airport services are trying to save money during COVID by not having Aviation Firefighters on site. If anything happens, who’s going to protect our planes, people and critical infrastructure then?
